Meet the Governors

Introduction

Earlsmead Governing Body meets to act as a critical friend to the Headteacher. This means the Governors read information about the school, prepare questions to ask the Headteacher and senior staff, and challenge the school and school leaders to do their very best for the pupils. At Earlsmead, the Governing Body is highly effective in doing this.

The Governors currently serving have either been nominated and voted on by parents and staff; or have been nominated and selected via the Local Authority or through prior involvement with Earlsmead as parents. If you think you might like to serve as a Governor at some point in the future, you could speak with Mrs Wicks who can put you in contact with another Governor. We currently have no vacancies on the Governing Body but it's good to be prepared!

I have been associated with Earlsmead for over 20 years as co-opted/ community governor. My experience and expertise is an outside view from the world of business, as I worked for a major clearing bank until retiring in December 2015. After a brief induction,  I  was elected as Chair where I served until 2 years ago when I was delighted to hand over the reins to Trudie Frith. In that period, I have worked with 3 Head Teachers all of whom have contributed to the school as we have faced the challenge of bringing Earlsmead to its rightful place as a centre of excellence for all children.

I became part of the Earlsmead family in September 2004 when the first of my two children joined the Reception class. I have always been a keen supporter of the school because above all, I admire their inclusive ethos and continuing efforts to improve. I became a governor in 2010 and serve on the Resources Committee. I live locally and so understand the community and the various challenges we face. I work in the early years sector with children and families and so bring a wealth of knowledge to the governing body. I care passionately about the Earlsmead family and as such, strive to be a support to the head teacher as she leads our school to excellence.

I have been a teacher at Earlsmead for 19 years, working across both key stages and I am also currently the school Travel Plan Coordinator.  I am also a mum of two children who both attend Earlsmead.  Earlsmead is a great place to work as the staff are committed and work exceptionally hard, while the pupils are keen to work and engage with each other.  Living in the local community as well as working in the school, I see the challenges we face together.  With all my hats on, I want everyone to see Earlsmead as the inclusive and successful school that it is.

I joined Earlsmead in 2014 and was greeted with such a friendly staff that I felt welcomed by all. Since then I feel the school has continued to grow as a community, and as a class teacher I offer support, kindness and motivation to children and staff of the school. With my love for music, I hope to bring to Earlsmead new and interesting ways to show off children’s and teachers’ talents in this area.  As temporary teacher Governor, I hope to voice mine and other members of staff’s thoughts and ideas across the Governing body to continue to develop Earlsmead as a good school.
