SUCCESS FOR ALL

Autumn term

Autumn 1

This term in Year 4, the children will embark on an exciting journey into the world of the Anglo-Saxons, discovering how they lived, ruled and shaped life in Britain. To launch this topic, we will host a special activity day designed to spark curiosity and inspire the children to explore this fascinating period of history.

In science, our focus will be on Sound. The children will investigate how sounds are made, how they travel, and how we hear them. There will be plenty of hands-on experiments to deepen their understanding and bring the learning to life.

Our main book for Autumn 1 is The Lost Happy Endings by Carol Ann Duffy. This magical story follows Jub, a brave young girl who protects the happy endings of fairy tales from being stolen by a wicked witch. It’s a rich and imaginative text that will help the children develop their reading, writing and storytelling skills.

Did you know?
The Anglo-Saxons were brilliant craftworkers. They created intricate jewellery, weapons and even helmets decorated with patterns and precious stones. Some of these treasures, like those found at Sutton Hoo, are still on display today!

Autumn 2

In Autumn 2, Year 4 will be exploring the big question: Are all settlements the same? in their geography lessons. The children will compare different types of settlements, thinking about why people choose to live where they do and how communities grow and change over time.

In science, the focus will be on Animals, including Humans. The children will learn about the human digestive system, teeth and their functions, as well as food chains and the vital role each living thing plays.

Our main book for Autumn 2 is The Whale by Ethan Murrow and Vita Murrow, a moving and thought-provoking story that explores friendship, bravery, and our connection to nature.

In computing, the children will create a professional-looking web page that presents useful information in a clear style, making it easy for users to read and find key details. This project will help them develop important digital and design skills.

It promises to be another exciting and inspiring half term in Year 4!
