SUCCESS FOR ALL

Spring term

Maths

This half-term in Maths, we will be focusing on Multiplication and Division and Length and Perimeter.

  • Practising all multiplication tables and using them to solve division problems

  • Learning written methods for multiplying 2-digit and 3-digit numbers by a 1-digit number

  • Measuring length in kilometres and metres

  • Finding the perimeter of shapes and working out missing perimeters in rectilinear shapes

We will use lots of practical activities and problem-solving to help deepen understanding and build confidence.

English

This half term in English, we are studying the text Arthur and the Golden Rope. We will carefully explore the illustrations to develop our inference skills, thinking about what is happening in the story and how characters might be feeling. Children will learn how authors choose powerful vocabulary to build tension and excitement, and will practise using this language in their own writing. We will also focus on creating detailed and imaginative setting descriptions, using descriptive language to engage the reader. The unit will conclude with children writing their own poems using abstract nouns to express ideas and emotions creatively.

History

This half term, we are learning about The Ancient Maya.

  • Identifying what was happening in Britain at the same time as the Ancient Maya

  • Exploring how the Ancient Maya settled in the rainforest and the challenges they faced

  • Learning about Ancient Maya beliefs

  • Naming and describing the main features of Ancient Maya cities

We will use stories, maps and artefacts to help bring this exciting civilisation to life.
