term 1 - ONCE UPON A TIME
In Once Upon a Time…, children explore traditional tales and fairy stories. They learn to retell stories, act out characters and sequence events, supporting their imagination and early literacy skills. Children practise listening carefully, using new vocabulary and expressing ideas through drawing, writing and role play.
Key learning areas:
- Traditional Tales – Listening to and learning familiar stories, fairy tales and characters.
- Storytelling & Language – Retelling stories, acting them out and using story language and new vocabulary.
- Imagination & Role Play – Developing creativity through dressing up, small-world play and drama.
- Sequencing & Patterns – Understanding the beginning, middle and end of stories and recognising simple patterns.
Term 2 - A LONG TIME AGO
This topic introduces children to the idea of the past and changes over time. Through stories, photographs and exploration, children learn about dinosaurs, life long ago and how things are different today. They investigate seasonal changes and develop curiosity by asking questions and making comparisons.
Key Learning Areas:
- The Past – Learning about things that happened long ago and how life has changed over time.
- Dinosaurs & History – Exploring dinosaurs, fossils and stories from the past.
- Seasons & Change – Observing changes in the weather and environment across the year.
- Questioning & Investigating – Asking questions, making comparisons and sharing ideas about the past and present.
